Service Opportunities Update

Assistant SS Teacher - Aaron Kahl has volunteered to take Mike Brookbank’s class for the entire month of January rather than having a different teacher every week. Thanks Aaron for taking that on. If needed, there may be opportunities to help Aaron out, but we’ll leave that up to him.

Caroling - December 13 the Abbott House will be asking that people sign up for 45 minute slots of caroling. We thought we would do this as a group. The sign up sheet went around, but if you want to get in on the action it is not too late! Let Amy Kahl know next week in the MC (mini congregation).

Prayer Requests for the week of November 11

  • Prayer Request list for this week:

> Amber Quinn will be going in for a C – Section this week Tuesday at 8:00am for their family’s newest addition to finally become a reality. Amber asks to pray especially for safety.

> Stephanie Johnston reported on Saturday that they have the flu at their house. Please pray that it would pass quickly and skip a few family members!

> Prayer was requested for Chad and Angela Vogal and their family. Chad recently resigned as athletic director at DWU, and his vocational future is somewhat up in the air. Chad’s parents are both battling cancer as well. Just pray that God’s hand would be on them through what is probably a very tough time for them. Pray that they would continue to seek God out, and that their marriage would not come under attack. We also pray that they would see fit to return to mini congregation as we enjoy their input from time to time.

Leadership Summit Series

Hi everybody... yeah, don't rub your eyes, I'm posting on Sunday night! :) Even during a football game... yep, the Lord lead me, and... I have a DVR.

This week we started a video series in our Mini Congregation time. The series comes from Willow Creek church out of Chicago. These are a series of lessons focusing on leadership. Each week we will have a related, but not dependant lesson, meaning, if you miss, don’t be shy about coming the next time because there’s no quiz!

This week Bill Hybels (Willow’s head pastor) gave a message entitled “Vision to Die for”. It is about the vision of a leader, and how this can become a successful vision. In short, it can’t be just the leader’s vision, but it has to be owned by others in order to succeed. Hybels used the example of the Civil Rights movement, specifically the racial equality movement spearheaded by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Because people shared this vision, they were even willing to die for the cause, as was unfortunately displayed on Bloody Sunday in Alabama in 1965 where the nation saw that these men and women were willing to be beaten and die for Dr. King’s (an their own) vision.

Yeah, heavy stuff…

Next week there will be an interview with Carly Fiornia, former CEO of HP (Hewlett – Packard) and Victory Chairman for the Republican National Committee. Fiornia’s interview is entitled “Tough Choices”.

If you want to get more information on the series, you can download the accompanying handout from the Willow Creek website: www.willowcreek.com/summit/team07 The password is LSTE07 (that is a zero not an O).

Catching Up

Hey everybody,
Sorry that I blew it last week and didn't get anything on the blog. Enough of that for now...

Happy Thanksgiving week! Man do we have a lot to be thankful for.

Verses for this week - We are focusing on verses that stress the importance of relationships. Should be a lot in there to choose from.

I bone headed it last week and didn't bring anything to write our prayer requests on...
However, we need to certainly keep Amber Quinn and her family in our prayers as she is nearing the end of a less than smooth pregnancy... In fact, since it is so easy to say that we are going to pray, but we sometimes don't, why don't you pray this prayer right now???
Father God, we are blessed to have the exciting time of anticipation of the birth of Amber and Will's child coming up. We know that it has been a hard road for them. Lord, we pray that you would just take away the uncertainty and grant a peace that can only come from you. Lord, we praise you for your incredible love that you bestow on us daily. In your Son's precious name, Amen

I know there were other prayer requests, so please forgive me for missing them on the list. I'll get the hang of this information stuff some day.

In other news, I am working on getting a video series that we can start this coming week, but I haven't got it yet. Prob this Friday!

Blessings to you all, and we'll see you on Sunday. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Casey

Prayers for the week of Nov 9

Prayers for this week:
Please pray for Amber Quinn and her pregnancy. She is feeling especially anxious for her baby's well being in the last weeks of her pregnancy. Let's pray that God would grant her peace and health to the baby.

First Shot at Godly blogging!

Hey everybody, welcome to the Northridge Legacy builders Blog! We're going to hopefully keep this thing going, so you'll want to possibly add this site to your favorites. If you're not sure how you got here, you are at www.NorthridgeLegacyBuilders.blogspot.com (if you go to that link, you will just come right back here, so don't bother, or do...)

Ahh, we just finished the 42 chapters of Job. What a great story of a man who had great faith beyond what most of us could comprehend! We learned though that even Job waivered a little bit. But our hero, you know, God, saved the day again. He pretty much put the smack down on any doubters. "Where were you...?" Good stuff. If you missed out on our last discussion and you want to see an example of God flexing his all knowing muscle, well start at Chapter 38 and read through the end.

This coming week we will be looking to choose a new topic to study for a few weeks. I will try to provide a list of studies that are available to us. However, if you have something on your heart that you would like to see us study or something that you would like to present to the group for one or more weeks, please bring it to the table!
